Probably NOT something that will be in the QBP catalog anytime soon, is this DIY wood burning stove I spotted on the Surly blog (of all places!). Made from a paint can, it has two large holes to accept the chimney and a Kleen Kanteen for boiling (pretty darn cool).

Check out http://www.bplite.com/ for some great homemade stove ideas... even superlite woodburners. stuff that packs small and uses little energy...

I wonder if the original design goal of that stove was as a bong?
i'd hesitate to heat a sigg or kleen kanteen bottle. they all have 'food safe' coatings on the interior - not sure if heat would break these down into your tea or drinking water...
mike...i know the Sigg bottle has a coating, but from what I understand the KKs are just food grade metal (from what I can see), no plastic liner or anything (why I went with KK over Sigg).
thanks for the info russ. we are a sigg household here, and i vaguely remember researching both brands when the little one was born (sippy cups...!) we settled on bpa free plastic for now, and have stayed away from the kks due to the china on their label.
Klean Kanteens are made from 18/8 food-grade stainless. They do not need or have any kind of liner like Sigg uses.
Looks pretty hefty. I’ve been making DIY alcohol stoves and windscreen/ pot-stands for a few years now and am always fascinated with homemade gear. This one looks like a bit of a load.
I would be interested in what kind of stoves others are using. Folks I meet backpacking are mostly using either alcohol or butane. It seems like most people I meet bike touring use multi-fuel or alcohol. I'm thinking of trying esbit tabs when we do the Blue Ridge Parkway this August. So many choices.
